| At last I have a bit of time to get on here and say something about The Green Wood Working Weekend 23rd/25th July.
Ten out of ten for the welcome our archers recieved from the wood workers.
Friday evening saw the first contingent of SURA's move into our own camp area alongside Axehead carpark.
Thanks to the kind offer of Mr Bob Moffat the land owner we were able to set a long range come and try archery butt.
Saturday saw our second contingent of archers move onto the field and people from the woods drifted back and forth nearly all day to shoot alongside them and discuss various aspects of bows and arrows.
Grdaually as the day wore on we saw a trickle of primitive bows being brought from the trees,as well has rough arrows.
Despite the changeble weather Sunday morning saw even more of these primitive weapons shot.
One in particular stood out as an almost exact copy of the Mere heath bow circa 2500 BC, this weapon shot a rough arrow in excess of 60 yards.
I only wish that I had,had the time to record who the young woodsman was and get a photo.
Perhaps if he reads this he will get in touch.
All in all everyone had a great time.
We met folk from as far afield as London, Lancashire, Seahouses and Thurso !!
We did not get many photos but have a look at our galleries at www.southernupland.webs.com see if you are there and make comment if you wish.
If you have any pictures of the weekend our archers would love to see them.
If you would like to know more of Southernupland Roving Archers have a look at our events page www.southernupland.webs.com or contact us.
We will be back at Wooplaw later in the year when we will be shooting Atlatl's as well as bows!!
Off to eat my gruel now using my wooden bowl and spoon!!!
See you all soon The Archer. |
